Luigi Cantisani is a European lawyer qualified in Italy and a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Warwick. In both roles, he specialises in European technology law, focusing on online platforms, the data economy, blockchain, contract automation, crypto-assets, fintech, video games, and, more recently, artificial intelligence. As a practitioner, he has primarily worked on EU compliance for SaaS providers, online platform operators, DeFi projects, various types of DApps, and crypto-asset issuers and service providers. As a doctoral researcher, his thesis explores the legal interpretation of ‘disintermediated online platforms’ and its implication for existing liabilities regimes under EU law. His most recent publications include ‘E-commerce in virtual worlds: Digital Services Act’ (co-authored with C. Poncibò) in Research Handbook on the Metaverse and Law (Elgar, August 2024), pp. 245-259, edited by L. Di Matteo and M. Cannarsa, as well as ‘The oracle problem in smart contracts: data privacy, security, and solutions’ (co-authored with Sharmin N. Chougule) in MediaLaws No. 2/2024, pp. 122-143, on the intersection of smart contracts and data protection. He is also a co-organiser of the Turin chapter of the ‘Legal Hackers’ movement, dedicated to bridging the gap between law and technology through knowledge-sharing initiatives.
